Custom Software Development for Canadian Businesses
Digital Shift helps Canadian business teams scope custom applications and connect the systems they already use through remote project delivery. Start with the customer or operational workflow that needs attention, then plan the data, integrations and rollout around it.
Connect the customer journey before adding another database
Customer information may be spread across a CRM, an appointment system, shared files and an accounting package. The first task is to identify which system owns contact details, job status and billing information. An integration should move the right information between them without creating a second, conflicting customer record.
A custom application can handle the part that is missing: an intake form that creates a reviewed CRM record, a service dashboard for staff, or a customer view of an ongoing request. Define how duplicate contacts, changed email addresses and failed synchronisation will be handled before building the connection.
Treat migration as a business decision
Moving to a custom CRM or business application involves more than importing a file. Agree which historical information is needed, who will clean it, how old records map to the new fields and what should remain read-only in the previous system. Test an import with a representative sample before planning the full transfer.
A phased implementation gives staff a way to verify the result. Choose an initial team or workflow, reconcile a set of records against the previous system, and confirm a cutover plan. The scope should state who signs off the data and what happens if an import or integration fails.
Scope the regional requirements your users actually have
For a business operating across Canadian regions, date formats, currencies, user time zones and customer communication preferences need deliberate choices. If French or another language is required, specify the screens, notifications and content that need translation. This English-language service page does not imply that a bilingual product is included automatically.
If your organisation requires a particular hosting region, access arrangement or supplier review, identify it at discovery. Digital Shift is US-registered and works remotely; a Canadian deployment location or other data requirement must be checked and agreed for the actual project. A country label does not establish a compliance commitment.
Prepare a CRM or application implementation brief
- Customer records
- Choose a source of truth, identify duplicates and agree who can approve corrections before migration.
- Required connections
- List CRM, email, scheduling and accounting tools, together with available API access and test accounts.
- User and data requirements
- Specify languages, regional formats, time zones and any hosting or access restrictions your organisation needs reviewed.
- Rollout and currency
- Name a pilot team, define data checks and confirm billing currency and recurring service charges in the proposal.
Coordinate reviewers across Canadian time zones
A project may involve a business owner, an operations team and a software supplier in different time zones. Identify one scope owner, list each reviewer's availability, and agree meeting windows before the first milestone. Written review notes and a shared acceptance checklist help avoid decisions being lost between teams. Support coverage is agreed separately from development review times.
How discovery, reviews and handover workQuestions before starting a project
Can you improve our current CRM without replacing it?
A connected tool, workflow or reporting layer may be enough. We first need to check the CRM's configuration options, API access, licensing and the actual business requirement.
Is data migration included in every software project?
No. The records, cleanup work, field mappings, test imports and cutover responsibilities need a specific scope. The estimator is a starting point, and migration can materially change the proposal.
Can a project include bilingual screens?
Language support can be specified as a project requirement, including translated content ownership, screen layouts and notifications. Its scope and review process must be agreed; it is not automatic.
